Empowering Lives Through Faith

A Mission of Hope According to James 1:27

We serve elderly and homebound widows who have few or no resources, visiting their homes to fellowship, provide food, and help with household chores like laundry and cleaning. Many are alone with no one to care for them. We bring together widows from different churches to teach them the Word of God and the importance of serving one another, while encouraging younger widows to love and minister to the older widows.

God has also called us to care for orphans. We’re ministering, feeding, clothing, and loving on them. They come to know God’s love and that He is Jehovah Jireh – their provider. We also bless them with school uniforms and cover medical expenses.

Join us in transforming the lives of widows, orphans, and students in Nakuru, Kenya, through compassionate care, teaching, and support.

PURE HEART MINISTRY FOUNDATION VISION BOARD

Our James 1:27 Mandate

Widow Support Program

We provide essential resources and companionship to elderly and homebound widows, ensuring they receive the care and support they need.

Orphan Support Ministry

Our ministry assists orphans by covering school fees, providing uniforms, and ensuring access to education, paving the way for a brighter future.

Community Empowerment

Through faith and skill-building, we empower widows and orphans to become self-sufficient, fostering a community of hope and resilience to the glory of God.

There are so many people in Kenya, especially widows and orphans, who live in dire poverty. One widow we recently began visiting died of hunger—she had no money for food and was eating soil to survive. This is a tragedy that should never happen.

Children face heartbreaking realities as well. Many orphans are left to survive on the streets, without shelter, nourishment, or care. We are stepping in to provide their most basic needs—food, clothing, and most importantly, the encouragement and life-changing power of the Word of God.

Education is another urgent need. In Kenya, families must pay the equivalent of $500 USD per year for their children’s schooling. Most poor families struggle to make even monthly payments, and when they fall behind, their children are sent home, losing access to the only pathway out of poverty.

Through faith, the power of God, and being doers of the Word (James 1:23), we believe these realities can be transformed. Our vision is bold but rooted in hope: by 2027, we aim to build a home for these orphans and fully cover their education—school fees, uniforms, and supplies.

We are anchored in Ephesians 3:20—knowing that God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all we ask or think. Together, we can bring restoration, hope, and a future to the ones the world has forgotten.

“This has been God’s doing. People are joining our mission of love to support the most vulnerable among us.”

My name is Patrick Mukhwuana, and I lead James 1:27 Ministry in Nakuru, Kenya. By God’s grace, I have been serving and ministering to the needs of widows and orphans here for the past four years. I serve under the leadership of our President, Marsha Elliott, and her husband, James Elliott, founders of Pure Heart Ministry Foundation.

As the church, we are called to defend widows and orphans. They have a special spiritual connection with God, and He watches over them, as the Scriptures make clear. God also promises His blessing to those who care for them. I believe widows and orphans can speak life into us and into the church. When we care for them, God is pleased, and they are blessed, giving thanks to Him for His provision through us.

I was born in Kenya in 1988 and raised by my single mother after my parents separated. Growing up with my twin sister, we faced daily struggles of poverty but remained resilient. My educational journey was marked by financial hardships; I completed kindergarten in 1994 and primary school from 1995 to 2002. Due to financial constraints, my secondary education was extended from the typical four years to six, concluding in 2009. Despite these obstacles, I graduated with a diploma in Christian ministry in 2023.

My spiritual awakening occurred in 2004 during high school when I found faith and became a born-again Christian. By 2005, I was leading praise and worship, and in 2006, I founded the Interdenominational Youth Army to engage youth through crusades, worship, and supporting church leaders.

In 2015, I felt a divine call to aid widows, leading me to establish a ministry dedicated to their welfare. I began weekly fellowships at their homes, a practice that continued for four years. This initiative grew, offering emotional and material support to these often overlooked members of our community. By 2020, my efforts culminated in founding New Life Change Ministries, later renamed James 1:27 Ministry under Pastor Marsha J. Elliott’s guidance.

This ministry not only provides immediate relief like food but also focuses on long-term solutions such as teaching sustainable farming and other self-sufficient skills. We emphasize spiritual education, encouraging a lifestyle of giving back, based on the principle that it is more blessed to give than to receive, as taught in Acts 20:35. Our ministry continues to grow, embodying compassion, faith, and practical support for those in need.

Key Scriptures

Chose honorable men to take care of this ministry. Those who have a good reputation, integrity, honorable, wisdom and full of the Holy Spirit. We will give them this business, responsibility and duty. Acts 6:3

Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause. Isaiah 1:17

Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation. Psalm 68:5

Thus says the Lord of hosts, Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another, do not oppress the widow, the fatherless, the sojourner, or the poor, and let none of you devise evil against another in your heart. Zechariah 7:9-10

You shall not mistreat any widow or fatherless child. If you do mistreat them, and they cry out to me, I will surely hear their cry, and my wrath will burn, and I will kill you with the sword, and your wives shall become widows and your children fatherless. Exodus 22:22-24
